Dresden

We arrived in Dresden late at night after a long drive from Rothenburg via Nuremberg.
We couldn't find the drop off place for the car, and then when we did, someone had taken our car park. We had to leave it around the back of some office and put a note in with the keys to say where it was. So after all that we walked to the hostel in the schnee, lugging all our stuff and really ready for bed. Next morning we got out for a look.

Dresden was almost completely destroyed towards the end of WWII and much of the historic city centre had been rebuilt.

2008 - you need to click on this and have a look, stitched up really nicely.

This mural at Saxon Palace was amazing, it depicts a long line of all the former rulers following in a line. It was about 100m long.

Hofkirche in the old town centre

The Golden Equestrain statue with the Altstadt in the background.

This was the hostel we stayed at in a cool part of town. Quite edgy and arty. Some weirdos in our dorm though, and it stank.

Gluhwine at an outdoor bar set up for the christmas markets.

The Zwinger Palace was amazing, built my Augustus the Stron in the 17th century, it was also mostly destroyed in 1945, but looks great today.

Angie - fly kick on top of Zwinger Palace.

I took a walk through the newer part of the city by myself and found this awesome wall.

Cinema complex by Coop Himelblau, love it.

I found Dresden to be quite distinctly in 2 parts. The Aldstadt is beautiful, old, classic German granduer. The new part is pretty different, quite arty, great shops, street art, good clothes, cool cafes and bars. Almost like a mini Berlin (which at this point we didn't know of course). Really enjoyed the visit, but we were both pretty over the hostel and ready to get moving.

I was super, super excited to get to Berlin, so we hopped on a bus and headed North.
