Bassin d'Arcachon

From Entre Deux Mers we headed West to our first coastal destination, Arcachon Bassin

Our first stop was Cap Ferret, right out on the peninsula, I was hoping to find some surf there and everyone was pretty keen to have some time on the beach for a few days. Arrived to a hive of tourists, slightly disappointing beaches and a serious lack of accommodation.

We almost spent the night in the Modus after driving up and down the coast looking for somewhere to stay, everywhere was the same, 'C'est complet'. Eventually settled on a nice place that was twice our budget, but still better than sleeping in the car. Breakfast was included and Emily got her moneys worth by pocketting plenty of extra croissants and baguettes.

Left the next day and drove around the other side of the Basin to Arcachon where we found more reasonably priced accom.

Ripper food market in Arcachon, best spring rolls ever, only 1 euro.

Spent a couple of days on the beach which was ok, if a little disappointing after Entre Deux Mers, managed to find a board and some shitty surf.

Me surfing onshore slop south of Arcachon.

Checked out the biggest sand dune in Europe, Dune du Pilat. Pretty amazing, over 1km tall, and is spreading something like 5m each year. Couple of photos below that dont really do justice to the size of the dune. The best bit was running down, full speed at the end, Ricey took the chequered flag.
